IV. ISTANBUL INTERNATIONAL
ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN FILMS FESTIVAL

AIM
Since its inception in 1954 “Chamber of Architects of Turkey” has been conducting a highly involved struggle till today aimed at developing the architectural culture, protecting the historical heritage and improving the quality of life. In order to add a new dimension to these efforts, it has been decided to initiate an organization from 2007 onwards under the title of “Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival”. It is the objective to ensure an active participation of everyone, most of all the architects, who is interested in the field.

The film festival organized in the scope of the “Architecture and Urban Festival” realized by the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, Istanbul Metropolitan Branch for the “World Architecture Day”, which is celebrated jointly by 1,200,000 global members of the International Union of Architects-UIA annually on each first Monday of the month of October.

As is well known, the Chamber of Architects of Turkey had successfully hosted the “22nd UIA World Congress of Architecture” in Istanbul in July 2005. This highly successful organization was much appreciated in the world and received very favorable press coverage.

In the scope of the Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival a competition is also held in two categories as National and International. Due to being “2010 European Capital of Culture” the film or films with the theme of “Istanbul” will be awarded with special prizes this year.

This festival aims at sponsoring films produced on architectural and urban issues, encouraging new productions, and exposing admirable examples of films to the audiences. Additionally it foresees to introduce our country and its architectural culture to a wide range of public, by providing the interested architects, film directors and related experts to meet in Istanbul.

SCOPE
Only Documentary and Animation films are accepted to the festival and the competition in two categories, National and International. A pre-selection process will be held and all selected films will be screened during the festival week. At the same time, discussion sessions and other activities will be held in order to provide an interchange of ideas among the participants.
